Indians make up the second-largest expatriate community in Saudi Arabia after Bangladesh. In 2024, over 2.4 million Indians were residing in Saudi Arabia, with 1.64 million working in the private sector and 785,000 employed in domestic work. Indian workers play an important role in the Saudi labor market and send remittances back to India. Meanwhile, the number of Bangladeshi workers in Saudi Arabia stands at 2.69 million.

Under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia is making several policy changes as part of its "Vision 2030" initiative, which focuses on increasing employment opportunities for its citizens. These changes include stricter certification requirements for foreign workers. As part of the new rules, all applicants will now be required to have their educational and professional qualifications verified.
**Challenges Arising from New Rules**
The implementation of these new rules could create several challenges. A major concern is the lack of sufficient verification centers where applicants can get their qualifications validated. According to Rajya Sabha member Haris Beeran, the verification centers for drivers are located only in Ajmer and Sikar in Rajasthan. Applicants, especially those from southern India, will be forced to travel long distances to reach these centers, causing logistical and language-related problems.
